“Big Read”—A National Endowment for the Arts grant celebrates the life of John Steinbeck, author of Grapes of Wrath, and current economic conditions. Several special programs are planned. For All Ages Family Crafts: Enjoy a variety of “make ‘n’ take” art projects and crafts on Fridays at 2:30 p.m. Valentine’s Day Scrapbook and Card Making: Learn to scrapbook and stamp while making Valentine’s Day cards on Friday, Feb. 12, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. All ages are welcome. With all minute details for the new library finally determined and the t’s crossed and the i’s dotted, the big equipment moved in and the long-awaited, actual excavating began the middle of last month. Now we can watch the new library being erected to its finish in December 2010. Starting off the New Year, Ramona Library offers programs for all ages during January: Youth Bilingual English/Spanish Storytime: Join this group on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5 p.m. Preschool Storytime: Enjoy a fun story hour with crafts on Wednesdays at 11 a.m. The first Wednesday of the month (Jan. 6) is Bilingual English/Spanish Storytime. Ramona celebrated the groundbreaking for its new library last month. Now all eyes are looking forward to its construction beginning this December. The targeted completion date is December 2010! We’re also looking forward to that spacious community room, study rooms, dedicated teen space, a larger children’s area with a homework center, a larger number of public computers, a Friends of the Library bookstore, and more. Library services will continue at the existing library at 1406 Montecito Road until that great December 2010 day.

Groundbreaking Day for Ramona’s new library will be on Monday, Nov. 16, at the site of the new ibrary on the corner of Main and 13th streets at 10 a.m. All will be there—the groundbreaking crews, including 2nd District Supervisor Dianne Jacob and San Diego County Library Director Jose A. Aponte, plus planners and supervisors, friends and more. Come join in the celebration of this long-awaited special occasion.
