   March 5-7:  Vallecito Days Reenactment ride weekend in Shelter Valley. Ramona Trails Association, www.ramonatrails.org.
   March 7, noon: Grand opening celebrations for Hawi-Vallecito Ranch, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park  on the Sunday of Vallecito Days. Nearly 10 miles of trails for equestrians, cyclists and hikers, allowing direct access into the BLM Sawtooth Wilderness.  Users may camp at Vallecito County Park for access (no corrals).
   The opening of this area to recreational use has been a cooperative venture of San Diego County Parks, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, U.S. Bureau of Land Management and local Native American groups, among others.

The Web site will either make one wonder what one is getting into, or provide an instant connection with the eclectic group of women involved. (The Web site’s caption boasts “Every woman deserves a tiara and a whip!”)  
On a more serious side, however, this group of riders gets together every week to dance with horses. Diva Master Sherie Levine oversees routines and takes novices as well as experienced riders to a place of equine synchronized wonder. The Divas are a venue for fundraising events to benefit causes such as Camp Hope, designed for survivors of domestic violence and child abuse, at Lake Sutherland and, most recently, the American Cancer Society.

Ramona Trails Association (RTA)  
Mark your calendars. The annual Spurs, Spokes & Sneakers event is coming June 27. RTA invites anyone and everyone on horse, mule, bike, or even  sneakers to join the fun. Last year’s event was a huge success. Come out and see what all the fuss is about.
RTA’s next meeting is June 3 at 6:30 p.m. in Ramona Community Center, 434 Aqua Lane. It’s open to all who are interested.

Ramona Trails Association (RTA): “Proud to represent all non-motorized trail users,” RTA’s mission has been to retain access to and maintain existing non-motorized, multi-use trails in this rural area as well as actively encourage new trail development on public and private lands. RTA members work closely with federal, state and local government agencies as well as numerous other volunteer organizations.
All are welcome at RTA’s next meeting, the group’s Annual Holiday Potluck and Gathering in the Ramona Community Center, 434 Aqua Lane, on Dec 6 at 6 p.m.
RTA general meetings are the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. in Ramona Community Center. Guest speakers are featured at the meetings, and more information may be found at  www.ramonatrails.org. Dates and details about 2009 meetings, events, work parties and rides will be posted by Dec. 15.
