Ramona now has it — a full-service, one-stop clothing and accessory store for mom, dad and kids from toddlers to teenagers, focusing on a wide range of fashion trends for the young and the not-so-young.

Fashionably Late Boutique and Denim Bar opened May 1 at 1443 Main St. in the Albertsons shopping center and is already drawing enthusiastic crowds.

It is the second store owned by 14-year Ramona resident Michele Lobaugh, who has operated the Girls Fashionably Late boutique for women in El Cajon for the past eight years.

“During more than 20 years in fashion retailing I have dealt in clothes for men, women and children and I wanted to get back into a full-service store as a challenge, and I’m loving every minute of it,” said Lobaugh.

Award-winning Ramona artist Martha Fredericks will be the featured artist in the Olde Ramona Hotel Gallery this month.

The public will have the opportunity to talk with Fredericks and other gallery artists at a reception at the gallery at 845 Main St. on Saturday, Aug. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. The featured exhibit, titled “Floating,” has a water theme.

An avid hiker, Fredericks said she gets inspiration from her hikes throughout the county. As a long-time member of the gallery, her interactions with the other artists in the cooperative gallery also have influenced her art.

She paints mostly in oils and received most of her formal training at art classes in the San Diego area. Her love of animals shows in her artwork. She received third place at the San Diego County Fair this year for her whimsical portrait of a fluffy purple cat.

The San Diego Air & Space Museum is a little more kid-friendly these days with the addition of a new high-tech movie theater and children play area.

The Balboa Park museum recently inaugurated a new “4D” theater, which combines 3D movies with moving seats, lasers, wind and splashes of water to give viewers an immersion experience.

“We’re trying to be more interactive, and we saw this as a way to engage kids,” said museum spokeswoman Jessica Packard.

It took about three months to convert a rear gallery into the 36-seat Zable Theater. It is currently showing two movies in a continuous loop throughout the day. Access to the theater is free with regular museum admission.

The first is a 15-minute portion of “Fly Me to the Moon,” an animated 2008 movie about a trio of flies that hitch a ride aboard the Apollo 11. The movie details what it’s like for the flies as the rocket achieves lift off.

Recognition. It is the very stuff of life. Babies cry for it. Brave men die for it. And on June 12th, 42 Busy Bee Preschool students got what was probably their first major taste of recognition from outside their own family.
Decked out in caps and gowns, they marched down the aisle to the familiar sound of “Pomp and Circumstance.” The ceremony was held at The Way Church on Hanson Lane to mark their graduation—from Busy Bee Preschool and Day Care Center.
Now, if truth be told, there are some people who quietly snicker at such ceremonies for 4- and 5-year-olds.
Snicker if you must, but a word of caution. Don’t do it in front of Harry and Sondra Butler, who have devoted 30 years of their life to young people since opening the school in 1981, or anywhere near their daughter, Catheren Murray, who is the school’s director and has taught there for 29 years.

A picturesque backdrop of San Diego mountains and beautiful blue skies provided a wonderful, serene setting for the graduation ceremonies at Warner High School.     Warner graduates proudly wearing their traditional caps and gowns were enthralled by the inspirational message delivered by San Diego County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Randy Ward.
Dr. Ward infused a touch of class and humor into his message to graduates and hundreds of attending family members, community members, alumni and Warner staff.
   “No fear!”
When you encounter experiences in life as they may appear in various forms, have no fear. Address the situation head-on and overcome any obstacle that may stand in the way of reaching your goals.
