Captain Book joins the fun at Children’s Book Festival
Ramona Branch Library will celebrate El Día de los Niños/El Día de los Libros (Day of the Children/Day of the Books) from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, April 30. The event is sponsored by the Ramona Friends of the Library and the San Diego County Library.
The festival is a national educational event to celebrate books and reading for children and teens, and the program’s mission is to promote literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
In honor of this occasion, Ramona Branch Library will host various entertainment, including Mexican music performed by guitar vocalist Chunky Sanchez, face painting, make ‘n’ take crafts with artist/librarian Margo Smart, and games with prizes offered by the San Diego Office of Migrant Education.
Captain Book (Morris Pike) from the Kiwanis Literacy Program will perform a seaworthy show with a book giveaway as he enacts his famous British pirate character in full swashbuckling attire. To learn more about Captain Book’s literacy program, check his website at www.captainbook.org/captain.htm.
All children and teens who attend the festival will receive a free book. The program is free of charge. Books will be available in Spanish and English.
