with today’s afternoon commute. The direction will be reversed Monday morning for the peak commute in the southbound direction.
“We generally use the weekend configuration in the northbound direction during holidays,” said Caltrans spokesperson Edward Cartagena. “We don’t move the reversible barrier during weekends and holidays because there just isn’t the distinct peak commute patterns (southbound in the morning and northbound in the afternoon) that we see weekdays.”
Caltrans reminds motorists to use hands-free cell phone devices, buckle seat belts and drive safely as they make their way to and from holiday destinations.

That was the consensus at a public meeting last Thursday in the Ramona Community Center, where residents aired their concerns about the 114-year-old building that has stood vacant on Main Street since 2002. Carole Fowler, president of the Ramona Chamber of Commerce, moderated the meeting. About 60 people attended.
Local author and former town hall board member Darrell Beck summed it up this way: “Imagine waking up in the morning and looking in the mirror and seeing your two front teeth missing. That’s what Main Street would look like without the town hall.”
Since 2002, board members have been unable to pay for insurance and special assessments on the structure. Without liability insurance, they have not been able to keep the building open to the public. “We found plague in the same park at this time last year. Campers should avoid contact with squirrels and their fleas,” said Gary Erbeck, director of the Department of Environmental Health. “Do not put your tents near squirrel burrows, do not feed the squirrels and warn your children not to play with the squirrels.”
Plague is a bacterial disease of wild rodents that can be transmitted to humans through the bite of infected fleas. [MORE]County unifies rural fire agencies 27.JUN.08 San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously this week to consolidate a dozen unincorporated area fire agencies that have struggled over the years to operate on shoestring budgets and haphazard staffing.
Vice Chairwoman Dianne Jacob, who has championed the consolidation effort, called the decision “historic” and said it radically transforms the region’s network of fire protection and emergency medical services.
“Over half the county will be unified into a single, less-fractured, more efficient agency,” she said. “This means stronger and better coordinated services in our rural areas. And, it brings us significantly closer to our eventual goal of creating a countywide fire entity to serve the region.” [MORE]County calls for night air attacks Joe Naiman 26.JUN.08 In the years since the October 2003 Cedar Fire that spread after dark, members of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors have expressed concern that California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Cal Fire) helicopters were prohibited from flying at night.
